    Spring time Moveable enclosure

Well Hello sun..... we today for us at least ( some of you who I speak to have been blessed with a lot more than us )

Here we are going to chat about keeping animals in a moveable enclosure, I am looking at Sheep, pigs and cows.

Keeping them where you want them:

Electric fencing is a highly effective way of containing or strip grazing your animals and/or splitting up existing fields. A visible and easily moveable three line fence provides strip-grazing when it is erected across fields. So why

End of Summer fence health check

Well your fields have been in full use now for a few months and I am sure the animals have tested the fencing a few times, tried to munch it and also there has been vegetation growth.

Here are some things to check and look out for.

    1. Check your power source? If mains - are all the connections still nice and tight no fraying? If battery - battery still charging? Are the energiser battery connections in place? If you are using a solar panel with a battery - is the solar panel in the correct position

Leslie said - "only you could find cows and electric fencing in London....."  Actually the cows had gone but the electric fencing was still there!  Nice little system using ring insulators and rope to stop the cows from leaning over the stock fence.

    Back Yard Pigs?

Are you planning on keeping a couple of weaners in the back garden or on the farm?  Need to keep them safe and secure?

Use an electric fence... See Alasdair's story and photos below:

Alasdair says - "these pigs are Oxford Sandy and Blacks (sow) crossed with a Mangalitsa (boar) - so they should be hardy for winter but will have to be careful they don't start putting on too much fat. Seem very happy in their pen - they have some trees to scratch and rub against and provide a bit of shelter, they

  7. Fence Protection

Happy New Year to you all!

On our way along the north coast of Scotland - where surprisingly the weather was bright and sunny unlike most of southern UK - we spotted some new fencing.

So simple - one line of high tensile wire threaded through ring insulators to help protect and maintain a new stock fence.  If this line of electric fencing is maintained properly it will greatly increase the life of the stock fence as cattle and horses will not be tempted to rub on the fence posts or push against
