Directional fault finder which identifies where the fault in the fence line is. This is a magic device which is self earthing and has a digital display and locates the problem area of the fence line for you.
Simply place anywhere on the fence line ensuring that good contact is made between the tester's metal conductiveplate and the fenceline itself and the fault finder does the rest !

How does it work?
* This tester is a digital voltmeter with built-in ampmeter. The digital screen indicates fence voltage, amount of current and current direction.
* The Fence Scout detects the directional flow of current (amps) helping you to find faults on your fence. High amps and low volts will indicate a short on the fence.
* The arrow indicates the direction of the fault. Walk in the direction of the arrow to locate the fault but please check every couple of meters to find the exact fault spot.
Please note - This tester is not effective with netting fences. Netting fences have lots of live lines and so it is more difficult to find the fault.

Using your Directional Scout Fence Tester:
Ideally you should be checking your electric fence should be checked on a regular basis.
A Hotline Scout Fault Finder can test your fence and find your fault. In short.. a short on your fence is when power escapes from your fence and goes into the ground back to your earth stake. It can be caused by many things - a broken underground cable, broken wire, broken filaments or insulator, a loose connection, or by foliage and vegetation touching the fence.
Place the tester on any area of the electric fence (press the button on the tester), move it laterally to get a firm connection with the fence.
In a fence with no shorts the amp reading (the large figures on the screen) will be zero, as nothing is flowing out of the system. The volt reading on the top right screen should read around 6000 volts or more.
The more severe the fault, the higher the amp reading and lower the volts reading will be. You will also see an arrow pointing in the direction of the fault.
Follow the arrow until the reading drops or disappears - this indicates that you have moved just beyond the fault. In multi-wire fences you will need to test each wire in turn, starting at the top.
If multiple faults exist it may be easier to isolate sections of the fence so you can clear one section at a time.
Where a fence splits at a junction, take a reading from each line and follow the one where the reading is highest for amps. The same applies if your fence is constructed with up and down links at the beginning of each section.
Checking the start and end of fences, around insulators, gateways and underground cable connections - these are all trouble areas.
