If like many animal owners you strip graze and are forever bringing bucket after bucket down to the Gee Gees or cattle -  or maybe your field/paddock has a pond/river but you have had to fence it off to be in line with European clean water regulations, then this leaves you with the job of plumbing in or carrying in a water source for the animals - this is very time consuming and heavy work.

Water Pump - Battery Only and  Water Pump - Solar and Battery.versions of the pump are available.

The water pump can be relied upon to keep your livestock watered if grazed in remote locations and is a reliable and simple 12v pumping system that is based on proven existing water-pumping technology and produces large volumes of water in a similar way to a mains supply utilising an electronic float switch instead of a ball valve.

Water Pump - Battery Only

Power for the water pump kit is stored in a 12v leisure battery which will need to be recharged regularly (the battery is housed within the control box - which will take up to a 75amp/hr battery - please note battery is not included).

Water Pump - Solar and Battery

Again, power for the water pump kit comes from a 12v leisure battery but this is kept charged by a solar panel. The batterys  housed within the control box (will take up to a 75amp/hr battery - please note battery is not included) and with this kit the battery is kept topped up as it is trickle fed by the 30w solar panel. The solar panel will reduce the frequency with whicj you need to recharge the 12v battery.

Whichever of the 2 kits you go for, there is no need for balancing tanks or header tanks, just a standard water trough. It can cater for large numbers of animals. These kits enable easy, clean utilsation of existing water sources by pumping water directly to troughs and drinkers as it is required. It can also be used to transfer water from water butts and other forms of water storage to the field.

Background Information:

The solar water pump has been developed in response to European clean water regulations, which are driving land owners to fence off water courses in order to keep livestock away and protect against river bank erosion, thus contributing toward cleaner water. It is also hoped that fencing will help deter poaching and safeguard native species of plant and wildlife. All of which is wonderful for our environment, but for land owners who rely on their water course to water their livestock, can be problematic.

Hotline Electric Fencing has spent the last 3 years working with livestock farmers, Natural England and the Catchment Sensitive Farming initiative (CSF) to provide a simple and reliable way of providing water to livestock when water courses are fenced off, or when the livestock are grazed in remote locations.

The system had to be reliable, capable of catering for large numbers of animals, cheap and preferably mobile so that it could be moved from site to site. The Solar Powered Water Pump Kit has achieved all these aims and in its test period one unit has kept groups of 90 cattle supplied with all their water requirements without any need to change or charge batteries.

Working with a standard water trough there is no need to train animals to use a different system such as the traditional pasture pump, which is also very restricted on the number of animals it can supply with water.

The kit is also cost effective and only marginally more expensive than a pasture pump, but far easier to use (and more flexible). The solar water pump kit is a fraction of the cost of larger fixed solar powered water systems and the pumping technology is also more robust. With the cost of mains water some of these systems have paid for themselves in under a year.

Mobile – the system is easily moved from trough to trough in the same way as you would move your electric fencing unit from one site to another. Simple plug in system for electric connections between the pumping, solar unit and float switch means the whole system can be disconnected moved to another site and set up again in a matter of minutes.
