We are using the 50m version which is powered by a battery, backed-up by a small solar panel. It would of course have been cheaper and simpler - had it been possible - to use a standard mains connection. the fencing system, from Electric Fencing Direct (01360 440611; www.electricfencing.co.uk), is the brainchild of Bob Taylor, who himself keeps poultry and who helped devise a package to suit us. The company also provides electric fencing to keep other animals in and assorted predators out.
